Great product, along with their food grade lye…..can’t go wrong. I do have a tip for newbys to soap making, something I wish someone had told me from the beginning, something that would have save me a lot of wasted money and trial and error. If you have very sensitive kranky skin like I do(all I have to do is think about a pimple or dry cracked skin and it happens), lower your coconut oil to 5% and your palm oil to 15% of your recipe. I know those two numbers seem very low and they are if you are following soaping books like they were your bible. For added hardnes I use 25% of my recipe as cocoa butter. The rest is beeswax and other conditioning oils. High quality oils, extra Virgin, unrefined and unbleached and cold pressed where possible. It does make a difference, a huge one. But those two “stripping(not cleansing)” oils, coconut and palm are you keys to how dry, ashy and tight, flaky your skin is after using your soap.

The Good: I’m giving this 5 stars because the product is fantastic and Essential Depot is wonderful and a very fast shipper.

    The Bad: Not one thing.

The Ugly: As others have pointed out, this stuff is next to impossible to get out of the bottle since it’s a solid at room temperature. To make matters worse, it’s sealed with super glued METAL FOIL that is IMPOSSIBLE to get off entirely. So you have this solid chunk of fat sitting in a bottle that you can’t get to and can’t microwave unless you literally shave the top of the bottle with a razor. So instead you have to give it a warm bath which adds like 30 – 40 minutes to any soap making process. It’s too bad it doesn’t come in a zip-lock microwave/boil safe bag. Would make life WAY easier.

This is my second time ordering Palm oil from Essential Depot for soap-making and I was very pleased that they have changed their bottle design to a much wider opening so the oil can be scooped out and doesn’t have to be melted to pour out.
This palm oil has produced a great quality cold process soap every time and I am very pleased it it. I have not used palm oil from other sources, so I can’t speak to how it compares to others, but there is no odor, it is easy to work with and the packaging is convenient.

This Palm oil works great for making hot processed soap. You will find that your soap will trace and harden faster, which could be a good thing or bad, according to how fast you work because the batch gets very thick especially if you are using Pomace Olive oil too, I would suggest use or the other because together they practically harden in the pot, you have to stir vigorously to get to the gel stage (hot process). Cold processed it will not pour. But that just may be my experience and according to my recipe. I still recommend based on how you can trace faster.

I have ordered this product before and it always works so well with my home made soap, a great product

I’ve bought this brand a couple of times and have been happy with it. One reviewer complained that the oil was solid in a pourable bottle. I live in central Florida. During the winter, I just pop the whole bottle in a sink full of hot water. It liquifies within about 30 minutes. I make sure to shake a couple of times. I use it to make my lye soap, lip balm and skin moisturizer. So far it has been great.

My first order arrived with a broken safety seal. I reported it to the seller, received a refund, and reordered. That time it arrived more securely packed and everything was intact. It’s a quality product – I use it for cooking and it’s great.

I have to say that I find most of Essential Depot’s products of great quality and well worth their value and would highly recommend their products. This time upon purchasing through Amazon, however, the palm oil I purchased had leaked due to a loose lid and some of it out through a pinhole in the bag supposedly sealing it. While most (90-95%) was still contained in the bag or container, it was very disappointing to see some spilled out.
Update/ Edit: While there still was a leak in the bottle and bag, one of the (many) things I do like about Essential Depot is their customer service end. I was contacted by Essential Depot’s customer service via e-mail which they stated they would correct the problem by sending a replacement. Up until now I have not had to deal with Essential Depot’s service line, but they handled it well and I am impressed. Mistakes do happen, I realize, and Essential Depot recovered very well. I would still recommend, however, that you buy the product through their own site as I have never had any problems through there.
