I ordered all the ingredients in a recipe for Mojo Pork. This roast was amazing! The flavor was rich, no old meat here. It was cut the same thickness as the photo in Fresh, not a rolled up, but solid muscle cut roast. Exactly what I need to pull for Mojo recipe. Best batch I’ve made, tried 2 times since, with store bought roast. Prime roast may stay fresher in that sealed package, im thinking. Will buy again. (Bought ground beef n ground turkey today, for taco salads) 🙂

i usually slow cook this in the over. I like to buy the ones from whole foods, but amazon fresh only has this one. it has a large fat cap on it and whenever i try to slow cook until it “shreds” apart, the meat ends up “slicable” instead. it’s still got good flavor and is tender and soft, but i can never seem to get it to “fall apart” like a classic “pulled pork”.
i don’t know what source the meat comes from (i.e. is it hormone free, pasture raised etc.. .)and it would be nice if they put that information on the packaging,

I must have lucked up and got a good one because mine was absolutely delicious! No bad smell or slime as some reviews said. And yes, it was greasy but it’s a PORK SHOULDER, it’s supposed to be greasy! I rubbed mine in Creole spices, marinated it for two days, then slow cooked it for four hours and it was incredible. Will be buying it again for New Year’s Eve dinner!

So surprised to see the bad reviews here! I’ve been buying these shoulder “butt” roasts regularly for about 8 months now and have never experienced the “horrible smell” that some older reviews are citing

This roast makes excellent Carnitas! Have served them to family and friends with rave reviews. Have bought these at least a dozen times now and it has always been good.

I’ve ordered a few “fresh meats” from this “Hamilton Meats and Provisions” brand and only 1 order hasn’t been a stinky slimy mess.

I can tell when they’re going to be nasty because the blood in the bag looks like thick cherry syrup. I regret not remembering to get a refund for this earlier.

UPDATE: I gave this another try since it was on sale, and wow it was excellent! It even smelled good right out of the package. It doesn’t discount the reports of funky meat, but know that if you get a good batch you’re gonna get a GOOD batch.

    How to cook:

I like to cut the pork into 2 or 3 long chunks, then marinade them for an hour. I use Mesquite from McCormick.

Place into a glass dish just big enough to hold the meat. Loosely cover with foil. I set the oven to 350F and leave it in there for about 2.5 hours. The result is very tender juicy pork that falls apart for carnitas.

This pork is flavorful and delicious. It was succulent no matter whether I cooked it as a roast or cubed it for stir fry or threw a slice of it on the bbq grill. It has just the right amount of fat to give a juicy, flavorful bite each time. I have purchased this cut repeatedly.

Try Campbell’s Apple Bourbon Sauce for use in a crockpot. It’s incredibly easy and it turned out great!

Used a slow cooker to make these tacos and the pork had a lot of flavor. The fat cap didn’t dominate the cut and it was a decently thick piece of meat.
