I regularly purchase a gallon of sunflower oil from Smude’s to use for my herbal oils and salves. I’m so pleased to have found a quality source of oil that is locally produced in my home state of Minnesota!

I have been purchasing another brand of sunflower oil for years, but their pricing went up so i tried this brand out instead. After the first couple days of using this particular brand, I tried to make some cornbread and it tasted awful. I thought that my cornmeal had somehow gone bad even though that has never happened before. I just used it again this morning to bake a chocolate cake and the cake tastes stale, similar to how my cornbread tasted (the only common ingredient to the two recipes was the oil – the cornbread was gluten&dairy free but this cake uses regular flour and milk). I noticed that this sunflower oil smelled funny when I poured it into the batter. I’m now confident that it is the sunflower oil that tastes strange, and I have never tasted or smelled anything like that and the other brand of sunflower oil that I used to purchase. Seller does not accept returns so that is $40 wasted. Just spend the extra five or $10 and get a better oil from somewhere else.
I have always used sunflower oil to make bread. It is next to impossible to find at any local grocery stores for a reasonable price anymore. A lot of it used to be imported from Ukraine but has stopped. I bought this after reading reviews. It is good quality and contributes to a great loaf of whole wheat bread!

Great nutty flavor, holds up to decent heat, comes in a glass bottle and has a good mono to poly saturated fat balance (more mono, which is better). While it is not organic, I contacted the owner who assured me they use no pesticides, spray for weeds only before it is planted, and maybe spray once every five years for weeds if they are really bad after the plants have grown. If you want a sunflower oil that you know its origin, its process and its quality. This is the one to buy.

That’s the only brand I found which taste like I used to have in childhood. It’s cold press and has flavor of Sunflower seeds, good in salads , i use it to sauté vegetables. I live in CA and even It’s on a pricey side I just won’t compromise the taste. I used to buy oil made in Ukraine but it disappeared from the shops last 5 year. I am glad I found this oil from Minnesota.
